Our History

The Beginning

Professor Crenshaw built his 1890 Victorian home across the street from the historic Halliday-Pick House. The Halliday-Pick raised cottage was built before this region gained statehood and remains an historic landmark in the North College Historical District. What is now the Crenshaw Guest House initially served as Crenshaw's personal residence. Soon thereafter, the second floor was added to house university students. For many years, Crenshaw, his wife Willie Ella Glenn, and their two daughters, Mary Glenn and Sarah Hall shared the property with university students.

The Main House

From 12-foot vaulted ceilings, to golden heart pine floors, late Victorian details abound, all within walking distance of downtown and Auburn University. Graceful proportions are the hallmark of the era; guests especially enjoy the spaciousness of their rooms. Overlooking Auburn's oldest neighborhood (officially designated as the Old Main & Church Street Historic District), Crenshaw is the perfect place for morning coffee or a refreshing cold drink at the end of the day. Each guest room includes private bath, cable TV and WiFi. Ample off-street parking is available

The Grounds

Grounds consist of one acre of gardens in what has been designated as the North College Historical District. Plentiful camellias are nestled among weeping oaks and maples, to include over twenty trees planted by legendary Auburn Football coach Pat Dye.

The Carriage House

The Carriage House still has the foot-wide floor planks which were laid before the turn-of-the-century. The floors and cedar walls help it retain a rustic feel. It also boasts a full sized bed in a ladder accessible loft above the king bed and a twin size day bed adjacent to the full bath.
Attached to the tear of this original structure are two additional guest rooms. These rooms appeal particularly to guests who appreciate a tranquil place to study or unwind. These accommodations feature a private bath, cable TV, and internet access. Well appointed kitchenettes make the hotel style perfect for longer stays, family reunions, and tailgating.
